April 30, 2023. Merida to Caceres Distance: 46 miles. Elevation: 2,285 feet
The weather is cooling a bit which makes for much more pleasant riding. Today we road through rolling hills of olive trees. We road along a reservoir and across a Roman dam, one of several reservoirs that provided water to the ancient Roman city Merida. Here’s a little place we found along the way for a cortado (espresso with a little milk).

In Caceres we stayed at the Palacio de Oquendo.

The massive town square.

The cathedral next to our hotel, doesn’t look like much on the outside

but a whole different story on the inside.

Every evening of our trip we meet at 6 or 7pm for happy hour and a presentation on the next day’s ride, sites along the way and history lesson. The hotel provides wine and some little snacks (and always potato chips). But this happy hour takes the cake!

It’s been great fun tasting all the regional flavors of green olives.
