So, we’re off on another great adventure. This time we’ll be biking from Prague to Vienna. This is our 40th wedding anniversary gift to ourselves. We booked this trip through Hooked on Cycling/Hiking and is not a group ride, we’re on our own. They arrange all our hotels and they schlep our gear!
Our travel plans entail flying into Vienna, taking the train to Prague, biking back to Vienna and flying home from there. Easy enough except . . . we have a giant tandem box to contend with. Once we start the ride Hooked on Cycling will move the box.
We flew out of LAX on Air New Zealand on Tuesday May 15 and arrived at Heathrow London on Wednesday, then British Airways to Vienna arriving around 1900. We stayed at a great little place in the little village of Maria Ellend not far from the airport – Mikrohaus Apartment.
My plan was to have the host help us make arrangements for getting to the train station in the morning. This turned into quite the friendly scramble since she did not speak much English and of course we don’t speak Czech or German. But she called a friend who helped with translation and booked a taxi to pick us up at 0900. Perfect.
It was getting late and the only place to eat nearby that was open was Cafe Auszeit. So our first meal in Austria was pizza and beer with the hard smoking locals watching the soccer game on the tele.

Then off to bed to catch up on a lot of lost sleep.
