San Juan Island – Sydney British Columbia
August 18, 2024
Chris and I are off on another great adventure. This time it is by boat and we’re heading north. That’s all we know so far, just planning a day or two ahead at a time. Cruising with us are our son Justin, daughter-in-law Lauren, granddaughter Annabelle (almost 5!)

and their 1 year old pup Winny.

We have a new (to us) 28 foot Carolina Classic power boat (on left below). Justin and Lauren have a new (to them as of last year) 37 foot Nordic Tug (red and white below). So we are cruising together-ish.
First stop is Sydney B.C. to clear customs and spend the night at Port Sydney Marina which is right in downtown Sydney. (By the way, it only took us 45 minutes to get here from Snug Harbor in San Juan Island!)

This is a beautiful place to explore with hanging flower baskets everywhere. Lots of fun shops. Walking trails along the shore in both directions. Annabelle found a great playground at Tulista Park where she mastered the rings. And Winny found a great Dog Park where she could romp to her heart’s content.
By late afternoon the sky turned ominous

and sure enough as we were finishing dinner outside the Small Gods Brewery “down came the rain and washed us all out”. By the time we got back to the boats the sun had come out and “dried up all the rain”.
Quiet evening back on the boats and early to bed.
How totally wonderful! Great to see your posts again! Have a fantastic time!

Gwen!
I’m happy to see you found a boat. We signed and paid for the new (to us) house in Polcenigo. I need to take a moment to get some work-in-progress photos. I am emptying the two apartments of trash and furniture and making hauls to the recycle center. It is time consuming (everything must be separated) and miserably hot work. So it goes slowly. But it is proceeding. Bill is working on clearing the overgrowth and cleaning up the courtyard. Miserably hot work with a topping of mosquitoes and poison oak/stinging nettles. I have mosquito coils burning in both apartments so it’s not so bad.
Looking forward to touring vicariously through you!
